Baseball: Four Saints named first-team all-conference

Spokane, WA – Saint Martin’s had four athletes earn
first-team all-conference honors while two others were named to the
second-team and two more received honorable mention on the 2008 Great
Northwest Athletic Conference all-conference baseball team.
Seniors Shane Schoeneberg, Nate Baker and Brandon
Kuykendall, all unanimous selections, and sophomore Andy Cole were named to
the first-team.
Schoeneberg, a third base selection, led the Saints
with a .392 batting average and a .687 slugging percentage, both third
in the GNAC. He also led the Saints in runs scored, hits, doubles, home
runs, runs batted in and stolen bases.
Baker, an outfielder, batted .387 on the year and
posted an on base percentage of .528, second in the conference and 18th
in the nation. He drew 30 walks and swiped 16 bags for the Saints. Baker
was a unanimous selection for the third consecutive year.
Kuykendall was also an outfield selection. He batted
.338 for the Saints with 53 hits and 35 RBI. His .554 slugging
percentage was the fifth highest in the GNAC.
Second base selection Andy Cole, who missed the
final two weeks of the season due to injury, finished the season with a
.361 batting average, sixth in the conference. He also had a .500
slugging percentage with 39 hits and 25 runs batted in.
The Saints second-team honorees were designated
hitter Luke Abbott and outfielder Craig Yuhas.
Abbott’s .356 batting average was the seventh
highest in the GNAC and fourth highest on the team. He had 36 hits and
drove in 20 runs.
Yuhas tied for the team lead in RBIs with 39. He had
41 hits including 11 doubles and three home runs.
Receiving honorable mention were pitchers Nick
Bolthouse and Andrew Neisinger. Bolthouse posted a 5-4 record for the
Saints with a 6.26 earned run average in 11 starts. He struck out 23 and
held opposing batters to a .298 batting average.
Neisinger also went 5-4 making 19 appearances with a
4.94 ERA. He struck out 23 batters and his 14 walks were second fewest
in the GNAC.
