Saints Post School Records at Sundoger Invitational (Seattle, WA)

September 24, 2001

The Saint Martin’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Sundoger Invitational last Saturday, hosted by the University of Washington. The men finished 13th in the field of 18 teams, while the women finished 17th out of 17. Despite the seemingly low team finishes, three school records fell and TEN Saints runners posted personal bests on the day. Here are the highlights: Freshman Matt Gage set a new school record with a 26:01. Chris Carpenter also eclipsed the old 8,000-meter mark with a 26:17. The old record of 26:26 was set by Tyson Magney in 1999. Nathan Carlson nearly joined the record-breaking group finishing with a 26:27. On the women’s side, Emily Thomas broke her own school record with a 19:42 in the 5,000 meters. Ann McCannick broke the freshman record with a 20:04, while Jennifer Houk, Heather Stolz, and Amber Sommer all posted personal bests.
