“A GREAT DAY FOR SAINTS CROSS COUNTRY September 16, 2002 The Saint Martin's men's cross country team had two top-ten finishers to lead the team to place third out of five teams at the Central Washington University Invitational on Saturday. “The guys did great. It was nice to see the red wave at the front,” coach Brad Hooper said. “It was a great day for Saints Cross Country.” The top male finisher for the Saints was Andy Prentice, who finished third with a time of 21:59 on the four-mile course. Matt Gage wasn't far behind, placing sixth with a time of 22:26 and 21 seconds behind him was Chris Carpenter with an 11th place finish. “Andy Prentice had his best day as a Saint getting 3rd Place. Matt Gage ran really well too at 6th. Chris Carpenter ran good at 11th. But, the day was for Andy. He hung with the second place man the whole race on a very slow course. The leader had placed 13th at the Olympic Trials in the 10000 meter run. So, he is really good,” Hooper said. The women's team placed fourth out of five teams on the 3.1 mile course. Julie Thielen was the top runner for the Saints finishing with a 21:30 time for 12th place. Eighteen seconds behind her was Ann McCanick for 22nd place and Nicole Beatty was 31st with a time of 22:48. “Julie Thielen on the women's side had another great race, and Ann McCanick was on her back the whole race,” Hooper said.
