Cross Country: Riak wins at Saint Martin's
University Invitational; Saints fourth in team races

Saint Martin’s finished fourth in both the men's and
women's divisions Saturday at the Saint Martin's University Cross
Country Invitational meet at the SMU campus.
The Saint men finished fourth with 104 points in the
seven-team field. University of Victoria easily took the team title with
20 points as its five top runners placed second through sixth
individually. Seattle Pacific was second (63), and Western Oregon third
(88).
SMU stand-out, John Riak (Fr., Lacey, WA) took the
individual crown with a 25:49 clocking, followed by the five University
of Victoria runners who were separated by just 33 seconds. Leading that
contingent was Kris Swanson with a time of 26:05. In addition to Riak,
two other GNAC runners placed in the Top 10 - Bul Nyoup of Western
Washington finished eighth and Nic Crawford of Western Oregon placed
10th.
On the women's side, SPU's Meredith Crane won the
5,000 meter race in a time of 17:33. Janelle Probst of the host Saints
was in the Top 10 with a time of 18:36.
University of Victoria women came out on top,
finishing with 26 points. SPU, ranked 14th in the nation, ended up with
38 team points, just 12 in back of Victoria. Western Washington finished
a distant third with 101 points and SMU finished in fourth with 114
points.
