Cross Country: Eight Saints harriers are GNAC academic all-stars, Blume atop women’s squad

A total of 60 student-athletes – 22 men and 38 women - have been named to the 2005 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Academic All-Conference team. A total of 29 athletes – 15 men and 14 women – were repeaters from last year, while two others were repeaters from 2003.

Saint Martin’s placed eight runners on the team, being edged by Seattle Pacific University who placed the most athletes on the academic team earning nine spots.

SMU junior Katelynn Blume (Jr., Lacey, WA) headed up the women's academic squad with a perfect 4.00 grade point average as a Chemistry major.

Nicole Beatty (Sr., Port Angeles, WA) was one of nine athletes who were selected to the team for the third straight year. She is maintaining a 3.65 GPA as an Elementary Education major.

Also named to the squad were Kaleigh Bishop (So., Stanwood, WA), Janelle Probst (So., Spokane, WA), Chelsi Claussen (Jr., Shelton, WA), Caleb Timmer (Jr., Tacoma, WA), Robbie Wilbur, (Jr., Spanaway, WA, and Seth Woods, (Jr., Lacey, WA).

Bishop is an Elementary Education major with a 3.86 GPA. Probst and Claussen, both Biology majors, earned 3.84 and 3.64 GPA’s respectively.

Timmer is maintaining a 3.84 GPA in Civil Engineering, Wilbur is a Math major with a 3.66 GPA and Woods posted a 3.28 GPA as a Biology major.

To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
