Cross Country: Riak earns All-American honors

November 18, 2006

Pensacola, FL – John Riak finished 31st at the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championship Meet Saturday with a time of 30:25 and was named an NCAA DII All-American.

Riak was the top finisher among Great Northwest Athletic Conference runners. His time of 30:25 broke his previous personal record of 32:10.

“John had a fantastic run,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “Same thing as before, he didn’t go crazy in that first mile, mile and a half. He worked his way through the field and in the last half mile got past about 15 people. He ran a very smart race.”

A total of 24 teams and 187 runners participated in the race. Nicodemus Naimadu of Abilene Christian took first with a time of 29:17, giving him his third individual national title in three tries. Naimadu was one of three Abilene runners to finish in the top ten and help post the program’s first ever national championship
