Cross Country: Riak finishes 46th
November 17,
2007
Joplin, MO – Saint Martin’s John Riak finished 46th
at the NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships as he covered the
10,000 meter layout on the campus of Missouri Southern University in a
time of 31:49.10.
Riak started steadily in the 70 degree heat and at
one point moved through into 23rd place, but the conditions took their
toll as he slipped back into the pack.
"John gave everything he had today. He was so close
to pulling off a top twenty placing, but the last half mile really took
it's toll; it was brutal out there," said head coach Julie Sullivan.
Nicodemus Naimadu won his fourth consecutive men’s
national title, the first athlete to complete that feat in NCAA cross
country history in any division, in a time of 29:39.7 as he led Abilene
Christian to their second consecutive team title.
