Men’s Golf: Nezu leads Saints to second place finish at GNAC
Championships
April 22, 2008
Spokane, WA – Hiro Nezu shot a two-round total of
138 to earn himself medalist honors and help the Saints to a second
place finish in the first Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s golf
championship held at Indian Canyon Golf Club in Spokane.
Nezu shot a tournament low seven under-par 65 in the
first round, his best collegiate mark to date, and a one over par 73 in
the second round.
The Saints, who held a three shot led at the end of
day one at 285, shot a 298 on day two to finish five shots behind
conference champions Western Washington.
Along with Nezu Saint Martin’s had two other top ten
finishers. John Eisentrout posted a fifth place finish shooting a 146,
after shooting a two-under par 70 in round one, matching his previous
season-best.
Chris Poulakidas finished tied for seventh with a
150 while Kevin Jech and Justin Lanman finished 11th and 13th shooting
151 and 154 respectively.
“I’m really proud of our guys; they played really
well overall,” said Bob Grisham. “They put themselves in a position to
win it on day one; they left some shots on the course today and Western
came back and played well on the second day.”
Western Washington finished the 36-hole event with a
team score of 578, including 290 in the final round. Three Vikings shot
par or better on day two to help WWU rally for the win.
With their performances the Saints now have
individuals with the ability to qualify for regionals. The official
results are expected to be announced April 28th.
