Softball: Saints sweep Crusaders

Nampa, ID – Saint Martin’s recorded a three game
sweep of Northwest Nazarene to notch their 20th win giving the Saints
their first 20 win season in school history.
Kirstin Davidson hit a sacrifice fly to score
Kristine Kaneshiro in the top of the 10th inning giving the Saints the
3-2 victory in game one of the series.
The Crusaders loaded the bases in the bottom of the
10th but with one out Astin Salisbury hit a sharp ball to third base
which the Saints converted into a third-to-home-to-first double play to
end the game.
Jamie Herrick earned the win for SMU throwing the
final five innings and allowing two hits and no runs. Lisa Holombo led
the Saints with two hits.
Alicia Fuchs and Herrick threw complete games for
the Saints on Saturday for the Saint Martin’s to complete the sweep as
the Saints won 8-1 and 4-1.
Fuchs held the Crusaders to six hits and allowed
just one run in game one while SMU scattered 16 hits.
The offensive attack was led by Fuchs and Holombo
who had three hits each with Fuchs driving in two runs. Kaneshiro, Danni
Ballard, Davidson, and Krissy Bassett had two hits apiece. Kaneshiro had
three RBI.
In the nightcap Herrick gave up one run on seven
hits while striking out two.
The Saints snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the
third on a wild pitch, a ground out and a single by Davidson. Brandi
Klemm and Davidson each had two hits and scored a run for SMU.
Saint Martin’s is now 20-30 overall and 6-14 in
conference. They return to Lacey for their final home game of the year
on Thursday, May 1 against Western Washington.
