Track & Field: Prentice sweeps 800 and mile, earns Outstanding Male Performer

Nampa, ID --- The Saint Martin’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the third annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Jackson's Track in the Idaho Sports Center.

On the men’s side, Western Washington finished on top with 151 points for its second straight indoor team title, followed by Central Washington with 134 points and Western Oregon, the 2004 champions, with 103 points.

Andy Prentice (Sr., Nine Mile Falls, WA) won two events and was selected the Outstanding Male Performer of the meet. Prentice swept the men's 800 and mile in times of 1:54.70 and 4:17.25, winning the 800 for the second year in a row.

John Riak (Fr., Lacey, WA) was second in the 5,000 (15:15.81), Caleb Timmer (So., Tacoma, WA) finished fourth in the 800 (1:57.78) and Josh Timmer (So., Tacoma, WA) was ninth in the triple jump (41-3) and tenth in the long jump (20-4). Adam Paczkowski (Jr., Oak Harbor, WA) finished tenth in the shot put (31-8).

On the women’s side, Seattle Pacific won its third consecutive crown edging Central Washington, 154-134. Western Oregon finished third with 110 points.

Chelsi Claussen (So., Shelton, WA) finished second in the 200 with a time of 26.15 and fourth in the 60 (8.10). Claussen still holds the meet record in the 60 with a mark of 7.94 from last year’s championships.

Ann McCanick (Jr., Lakewood, WA) and Janelle Probst (So., Spokane, WA) finished fourth and sixth in the 5,000 with times of 18:42.27 and 18:55.05, respectively. In the 800, Jessica Pendon (Fr., Spanaway, WA) was seventh with a mark of 2:22.18 and Lakita Burr (Jr., Lakewood, WA) finished ninth in the 400 (1:01.89).

The Outstanding Female Performer of the meet was Krissy Tandle of Central Washington, who successfully defended her shot put title with a meet record and national provisional put of 44-8 3/4 and also won the 20 pound weight throw with a toss of 50-0 3/4.

Named the GNAC Coaches of the Year were Western Washington's PeeWee Halsell in the men's division and Central Washington's Kevin Adkisson in the women's division.
