Track: Carlson breaks another school record

Bellingham, WA – Krinda Carlson broke her own school record in the women’s 800m to finish third with a time of 2:19.55 at the Western Washington University Twilight Meet Friday at Civic Field in Bellingham. The time was good enough to earn her a conference automatic qualifying time.

In the same race, Jenn Grover beat her Personal record, set last week, by three seconds running a 2:23.07. Amy Layton ran a 2:25.29; both were conference provisional qualifying times. Jessie Dunnam also ran a PR in the race coming in with a time of 2:27.76 while Kaleigh Bishop finished with a 2:33.50.

Chelsi Claussen ran her first 400m hurdles of the year clocking a 1:07.67, putting her fifth on the conference list and giving her a conference provisional qualifying time. Claussen also ran in the 100m and finished just shy of her season’s best with 15.83.

On the men’s side, Josh Gatbunton ran a mature race in a high qualifying field, making all of the right moves to take third place and smash his PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:02.37, two and a half seconds faster then the PR he set last weekend.

Two other big PRs in the meet came from Steven LaLonde and Katelynn Blume. LaLonde ran the 5000m 22 seconds faster at 16:22.90. Blume, in her final race for the Saints, shatter her previous PR in the 3000m with a time of 12:18.37, 28 seconds better. John Riak ran a PR in the 3k Steeplechase with a time of 9:54.30.

Other season’s bests came from Caleb Timmer and Asiki Ayume in the 800m. They posted times of 1:56.29 and 1:57.61 respectively. Robbie Wilbur equaled his best of 2:01.77 in the same race. Tristan Beach ran the 5000m in 16:31.75 while Taylor Shipman finished the 3000m in 11:58.08.

Also competing for the Saints at WWU were Jessica Pendon, who ran the 400m in 1:01.90; Devin Sturgeon who threw the shot 35’6.75”; and Aaron Edwards who posted 20’5.75” in the long jump. Kevin Tober ran a 2:21.25 in the 800m while Brian Daltoso posted a 12.40 in the 100m and a 25.10 in the 200m. The men’s 4 x 100m relay team of Daltoso, Edwards, Sturgeon and Conner Flaherty ran 50.00 flat.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship Meet will take place in May 4-5 at Civic Field in Bellingham.
