Indoor Track: Saints set multiple school records

Seattle, WA – Saint Martin’s posted a strong showing thin their first track meet of the year as they set three new school records and picked up a win within the first 90 minutes of the UW Winter Preview Meet held at Dempsey Indoor facility Saturday.

Freshman Megan Thomas set the first record of the day in the women’s shot put. She posted a throw of 28’11” to beat the old school record by three inches.

In the women’s mile Krinda Carlson picked up a win along with a school record with a PR time of 5:19.20. Annie Laweryson came in third with a time of 5:23.08, also under the previous record.

On the men’s side Sam Washington smashed the old record by eight feet with a throw of 46’ 1.25”, taking second place. Michael Vavricka also beat the earlier record with a 40’2” throw.

Three other Saints set new PRs including Jessie Dunnam and Helen Camden in the women’s 5000m. They finished sixth and seventh respectively with times of 19:02.15 and 19:12.98. Steven La Londe’s PR came in the men’s 5000m as he posted a time of 16:29.22.

Jessica Pendon took the fifth heat of the women’s 400m in 1:02.85. Ninalynn Benitez finished the mile in a time of 6:21.30. Karissa Owen and Kaleigh Bishop both ran the 800m in times of 2:35.96 and 2:40.43. Jill Blake fell just short of a school record in the shot with a throw of 28’ ¼”.

In the men’s 400m Bryan Gerry ran a time of 52.20 while Josh Gatbunton ran a 2:02.89 in the 800m. John and Nick Harvey ran the mile running 4:17.13 and 4:49.42. Tris Obluck finished the 500m in 16:08.68.

SMU had two others participate in the men’s shot put including Jacob Loquvam and Joshua Puckett. Loquvam threw 30’ 2.75” while Puckett’s throw was 26’ 8.25”.

The Saints’ next meet will be January 19th when they take part in the UW Indoor Preview.
