April 26, 2008 Bellingham, WA – Three more names were added to the school record books as the Saints competed in the Twilight Meet hosted by Western Washington University at Civic Stadium. Sam Washington once again set a new standard in the shot put with a throw of 53’4 ¼”. The throw pushed him up to 16th nationally. Three of the throws in Washington’s sequence were the furthest of his career. “To throw a sequence of throws at that level shows Sam’s strength and tenacity,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. Jill Blake once more found herself with a new record in the hammer with a throw of 135’11”. She then came back with a season’s best javelin throw of 115’10”. “Jill is coming on good when it really matters; championship time,” said Sullivan. The Saints final record of the day came from John Riak. Riak improved on his previous record and finished with a time of 14:52.63. “John deserved this race,” said Sullivan. “He has had some nagging injuries that have thwarted his progress this outdoor track season so he goes into championships with a great confidence booster.” Mike Vavricka set a new personal record in the discus with a throw of 125’ which provisionally qualifies him for the GNAC meet while Jacob Loquvam met his goal for the season with a discus throw of 100’ exactly. Krinda Carlson ran her first 3000m of the season and posted a provisional qualifying time of 11:01.05. The women’s 4 x 400m relay squad of Jessica Pendon, Amy Layton, Annie Laweryson, and Chelsi Claussen ran their fastest time of the season at 4:11.29, just shy of the school record. The Saints now gear up for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship meet May 2 and 3 at Central Washington University.
