Women’s Basketball: Saints split a pair at NDNU Tournament

Belmont, CA (November 17) – Saint Martin’s women’s basketball posted a win over Cal State L.A., 63-59, Friday at the Notre Dame de Namur Tip-Off Tournament in Belmont, CA.

The first half was back and forth. Both teams took turns with five or more point leads. Going into the half CSLA led 31-27. The second half was much of the same. With just under 3:00 minutes left in the game Cal State hit a jumper to pull within one at 59-60. The Saints held off the Golden Eagles for the rest of the game not allowing them to score again. The Saints would score three more points on a made free throw by Whitney Golob and two by Amber Harmon.

Sade Smith led the Saints with 16 points and eight rebounds. Whitney Golob also posted eight rebounds as well as putting up 13 points. Jessi Reome had 12 points on the night while Amber Harmon had 9 points and went 5-6 from the line.

Belmont, CA (November 18) – The Saints fell to Grand Canyon University 79-66 Saturday in their final game of the NDNU Tip-Off Tournament.

The Saints jumped ahead early and maintained the lead for the first 9 minutes until GCU tied it up 18-18. The Lopes went on an 11-0 run to pull away. They led by 12 going into the half.

The Antelopes continued to build on their lead in the second half going up by as much as 16 points. The Saints pulled to within six on a three-pointer by Jessi Reome with less then 3:00 minutes to go but the Antelopes never let the Saints get any closer scoring the last seven points of the game and securing the win.

Jessi Reome led the Saints with 23 points including 15 from the three-point line. Amber Harmon added 10 points. Whitney Golob and Necia Jerome both had eight points while Golob added nine rebounds.

The Saints’ next games are this weekend as they travel to Bellingham to take part in the Lynda Goodrich Classic where they will take on Pacific Lutheran University and Northwest Missouri State.
