Women’s Basketball: Saints dominate in win over Vulcans
November 30, 2006
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s had five players in
double figures and held the Vulcans to a 29.8 field goal percentage on
their way to a win over the University of Hawaii-Hilo, 85-49, Thursday
night at the Saint Martin’s Pavilion.
“It was a great win; we needed it,” said head coach
Tim Healy. “The best part was the balance. We had so many kids play
well. Our depth and balance is key for us.”
Junior forward Sade Smith led the Saints with 16
points as she went 8-10 from the free-throw line as well as pulling down
10 boards. Junior forwards Amber Harmon and Kassie Ludeman both posted
14 points on the night. Harmon also had 12 rebounds. Junior
guard/forward Jessi Reome had 13 points and freshman forward Krissy
Bassett put up 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hawaii Hilo, who is in their first year of the
program, dropped to 0-4. Guard Ashley Kualii led the Vulcans with 13
points. Forward Amy Kaaiakamanu had 12 points.
The Saints scored the first points of the game and
never looked back. They took an early 27-10 lead with 13 minutes left in
the first half and just continued to build on it. They went into the
break up 44-19. SMU continued to maintain control of the game throughout
the second half going up by as much as 43, 78-35, with just under eight
minutes left in the game.
“We’re just figuring out how to play together and
it’s a lot easier to teach when you win; we have a lot to gain from
tonight,” added Healy.
The Saints play at home again tomorrow as they take
on Lewis-Clark State.
