Women’s Basketball: Saints fall short in final minutes

Monmouth, OR (January 25) – Western Oregon mounted a
late comeback to defeat Saint Martin’s 73-68 in GNAC conference play
Thursday night at the Physical Education Building.
The game went back and forth in the first half.
Neither team was able to gain a substantial advantage. Down by four with
five seconds left Jessi Reome sank a three to put the Saint within one
going into the break, 42-41.
The Saints took the lead on a layup by Whitney Golob
to start off the second half. They were able to maintain control over
the Wolves and held a five point lead with 3:55 left in the game. But
the Wolves then went on a 10-0 run to close out the game and take the
win away from the Saints.
Jessi Reome posted a game high 23 points for the
Saints going 7-10 from the three. Sade Smith had a double-double on the
night with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Leada Berkey led the Wolves with 23 points on the
night while Kori Seymour added 21.
The Saints, who came into the game ranked seventh
nationally in free throw shooting, were only 11 of 22 from the line.
The Saints next game sends them to Bellingham to
take on Western Washington University on Saturday at Carver Gym.
