Women’s Basketball: Saints snap Seawolves win streak
March 1, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s women’s basketball had
four players in double figures on their way to a 69-57 win over the
University of Alaska Anchorage, putting an end to the Seawolves seven
game win streak Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
Amber Harmon led the Saints offense with 15 points
while Whitney Golob added 14 points and seven rebounds. Jamey Gelhar put
up 12 points on the night. Kassie Ludeman recorded a double-double with
11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Seawolves scored the first four points of the
game and kept the Saints from scoring through the first three and a half
minutes. But SMU quickly took the lead and held off Alaska Anchorage to
take a 29-23 lead into the break.
Saint Martin’s maintained their lead in the second
half allowing the Seawolves to tie it once but never letting them take a
point advantage. Anchorage pulled to within four with 2:41 to go but a
jumper by Kassie Ludeman put the Saints back up by six. The Seawolves
fouled the Saints three times in the remaining two minutes and SMU made
every shot. In the same time frame UAA shot seven threes, missing all of
them.
Rebecca Kielpinski was the only player in double
figures for the Seawolves posting 15 points and 12 rebounds. UAA shot
just 31.9 percent from the floor and was just 3-8 from the line. Saint
Martin’s took full advantage of their free throws going 17-19 from the
line.
The Saints will play their final game of the season
this Saturday at home against the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
