Women’s Basketball: Saints sink Seasiders
November
19, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s picked up their first
official win of the season as the defeated BYU-Hawaii 69-43 Monday night
at the SMU Pavilion.
The Saints scored the first seven points in the game
before BYUH was able to get on the board. That five point deficit was
the closest the Seasiders would get as Saint Martin’s would go ahead by
as much as 19 and take a 16 point lead into the break.
SMU continued to add to their lead in the second
half. With just under nine minutes to go they would establish a 62-29
advantage. BYU–Hawaii was able to sink some late shots and scored the
final six points of the game but they could not stop the Saints.
Jamey Gelhar led the Saints with 11 points and added
five assists. Krissy Bassett had 10 points while Sade Smith had 10
rebounds. All 13 Saints played in the game and 10 put points on the
board. The Seasiders were held to just 23.3 percent from the field on
the night.
“Everyone was able to contribute tonight. That is
great to see, it means that we’re a threat from all angles, and there
are not just one or two key players that we have to go to,” said
Bassett. “It’s good to start off with a win, it makes us look ahead and
want to keep the momentum going.”
The Saints look for that momentum to carry them into
next week as they get set to face Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday,
November 28th.
