Women’s Basketball: Saints fall in conference opener
January 3, 2008
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s couldn’t find their
offensive power against a hot shooting Seattle Pacific as they fell to
the No. 8 nationally ranked Falcons, 79-52, in their first Great
Northwest Athletic Conference game of the season Thursday night at the
SMU Pavilion.
SPU shot 50.8 percent from the field and 54.5
percent from the three while the Saints were held to just a 27.9 field
goal percentage.
The game stayed close through most of the first half
until the Falcons put together a 12-2 run to take a 14 point lead at
36-22. A three by Roni Jo Mielke and jumper by Dara Zack in the final
minute would put the Saints within nine going into the break.
Seattle Pacific continued to pour it on in the
second half quickly building their lead to 18. SMU would pull back
within 14 but could not fend off the undefeated Falcons.
Saint Martin’s was led Kassie Ludeman with 13 points
and nine rebounds while Amber Harmon added seven points. Megan Busch and
Krissy Bassett had six points each.
The Saints will play at home again this Saturday as
they take on Northwest Nazarene University in the first game of a
double-header starting at 5 p.m.
