Women’s Basketball: Saints roll to victory over Crusaders
January 5, 2008
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s used a balanced attack to
defeat Northwest Nazarene University 73-51 in a Great Northwest Athletic
Conference contest Saturday night at the SMU Pavilion.
Northwest Nazarene scored the first three points of
the game but that was the only time they would see the lead as SMU
scored the next 19 points to open up a 16 point advantage. The Crusaders
were able to pull within six once but couldn’t get closer as the Saints
took a 34-23 lead into the break.
The second half was much of the same as Saint
Martin’s built onto their lead. NNU was pulled to within nine with 12
minutes left to play but SMU poured it on to go ahead by 18. They would
score ten of the final 13 points on their way to the win.
“Offensively we clicked tonight because we played
together as a team,” said Dara Zack.
Kassie Ludeman led the Saints with a game high 19
points. Michelle Short had 11 points while Zack added 10. Krissy Bassett
and Amber Harmon had nine apiece, with Harmon adding three steals.
The Saints shot 55.1 percent from the field while
holding the Crusaders to 32.1 percent. SMU also beat NNU on the boards
33-27.
“We played really well tonight. We were able to
establish a lead but we never got complacent, we never stopped playing
hard, which was really good to see,” said Ludeman.
SMU will play again one week from today on Saturday,
January 12th at home against Western Oregon University.
