January 24, 2008
Lacey, WA – Central Washington put together a second
half rally, overcoming a 15 point halftime deficit, to pull out a 59-56
win over Saint Martin’s Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.
The game stayed close in the beginning until with
5:25 to play the Saints strung together an 11-2 run to finish out the
half and take a 34-19 lead into the break.
Central stormed back scoring the first eight points
of the second half as part of a 17-6 run to get them to within four.
With eight minutes to go in the second half the
Wildcats were able to tie the game at 46-46. The Saints would manage a
four point lead only to see CWU tie the game again four minutes later.
Central’s Elyse Maras hit a three with 3:10 on the clock to put the
Wildcats up 53-50.
Dara Zack made a layup to pull the Saints within one
but Central would go back up by three on their next possession. With
just 10 seconds left Zack got a steal and took it in for the easy layup.
The Saints were forced to foul and Maras capitalized sinking both shots.
Saint Martin’s tried to get off one final shot but it was no good.
CWU, who shot just 26.7 percent from the field in
the first half, shot over 57 percent in the second half.
Zack and Kassie Ludeman had 12 points each for the
Saints. Amber Harmon had a team high six rebounds. The Wildcats were led
by Hanna Hull with 20 points and Elyse Maras with 13.
