Women’s Basketball: Saints win battle with Yellowjackets
February 2, 2008
Billings, MT – Kassie Ludeman and Dara Zack posted
double-doubles for Saint Martin’s as the Saints picked up a 68-67
victory over Montana State Billings Saturday night at Alterowitz Gym.
The Saints jumped ahead early leading until the 7:56
mark when MSUB tied it 24-24 on a three by Kayla McPherson and took the
lead on a layup by Kayla Ryan. They would build their lead to as much
nine but Saint Martin’s scored the final six points of the half to cut
the deficit to three, 35-32, going into the break.
The Jackets maintained the slight lead through the
first 11 minutes of the second half until Jamey Gelhar drilled a three
to put the Saints up by two. The two teams would battle back and forth
until the very end with the score tied three times and the lead changing
hands four times.
McPherson hit two three-pointers back-to-back, but
the Saints’ Amber Harmon hit one of her own to tie the game for the
final time at 61 all. Saint Martin’s took the permanent lead following a
pair of free throws by Ludeman with 1:36 to play. Billings was able to
get off two shots as time expired but missed both giving SMU the win.
Ludeman led all scorers with 16 points and 14
rebounds, going 6-10 from the field and 4-4 from the line. She also
added a game high three blocks and had two steals. Zack added 13 points
and 10 rebounds for the Saints.
Billings had four players in double figures
including Shantall Marquis with 15 and McPherson with 14.
The win improves the Saints to 6-3 in conference,
13-5 overall. The Yellowjackets drop to 5-4 in conference and 8-10
overall.
The Saints have a bye this Thursday before heading
to Western Oregon Saturday to face the Wolves.
