Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got solid production from
the bench on their way to a 65-59 win over the University of Alaska
Fairbanks Thursday night at the SMU Pavilion.

score 11 and 10 points respectively. Busch pulled down five boards while

In a slow first half, Fairbanks took the early lead
and was able to hold off the Saints until a layup by Krissy Bassett gave
SMU the 18-16 advantage which they never gave up going into the break up
by nine.
“We got down in the first half but we knew we had to
get in and get the job done and we were able to battle back,” said Roni
Jo Mielke.
They extended their lead to as much as 11 in the
second half before the Nanooks battled back into it and pulled to within
two with less than a minute to play. UAF’s Sheena Brown hit a layup to
make it 58-56 SMU.
Saint Martin’s would score the next seven points,
all on free throws, including five by Kassie Ludeman, to go ahead 65-56.
Brown hit a three as time expired to account for the final.
Brown posted a game high 23 points with four steals
and four assists. Joscelyn Shumate added 13 points while Kari Reabold
had 12.
Jamey Gelhar led the Saints with 15 points and was
six for six from the line.
Saint Martin’s beat Fairbanks on the boards pulling
down 37 to UAF’s 30.
“This was a good win and puts us in a really good
spot for Saturday,” said Kassie Ludeman. “We had some really good
performances tonight. Megan stepped it up and hit some critical threes
for us.”
