Saints place second at NIO and 18th at GCU Invite before out dueling Spokane

March 31, 2005

Saint Martin's continued their season with strong performances at the Northwest Intercollegiate Open on March 20-22, the Grand Canyon Invitational March 27-29, and a home dual match with Spokane Community College on Wednesday.  The Saints tied for second at the NIO in Portland, took 18th at the GCU Invite in Phoenix, and easily defeated SCC.

At Portland, Stacie Henden led SMC and was the first round leader shooting 75 before finishing third overall in the 36-hole event.  Saints coach Bob Grisham commented, "Stacie’s play was consistent both days and her first round score of 75 was an outstanding score on a difficult course”

At Phoenix, the Saints took 18th in a field of 21 teams and were led by Maria Laraisse who posted rounds of 79 and 75 to finish tied for sixth overall among 103 golfers.  Henden tied for 32nd after a second-round score of 79.  Grisham reported, "Maria played two very competitive rounds against the best players in the West region in finishing a very respectable sixth."

The Saints came back from the Valley of the Sun to play a home dual match with Spokane CC. Bridget Kennedy lead the Saints at Tumwater Valley shooting a personal season best round of 78 as the Saints earned the victory shooting a team score of 338 to Spokane's  370.  Laraisse shot 82 and Lisa Kurtzman shot a season best 88. Grisham added, “Bridget shot a very good score on our home course and this will be a confidence building round for her to take into the remainder of the season."

Saint Martin's will next compete at the Chico State Invite on April 11-12 at the Butte Creek Golf Club in Chico California.
