Women’s Golf: Saints post highest finish of the year

Vancouver, B.C. (October 16) – The Saint Martin’s
women’s golf team played two outstanding rounds of golf to finish second
at the University of British Columbia Women’s Golf Invitational on
Monday at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
The six team tournament included NAIA defending
National Champions Oklahoma City University, two Division I schools,
Santa Clara University and Montana State University, host University of
British Columbia and Victoria, B.C.
At the end of day one the Saints found themselves in
third place having shot 323; behind Oklahoma City (307) and British
Columbia (321).
Day two saw the Saints put together yet another
great round to finish second in the tournament behind only Oklahoma
City. The Saints finished with a two-day total of 640. OCU finished with
a 610. UBC placed third at 643 while Santa Clara came in fourth shooting
a team total 646. MSU shot 647 and Victoria shot 668 putting them in
fifth and sixth respectively.
Babe Prante finished tied for third in the
tournament at 153. She shot a single round low 74 the first day and 79
on day two. Maria Laraisse finished tied for ninth after shooting a 158
while Stacie Henden was tied for 12th at 160. Lauren Roberts’ two day
total of 170 put her tied for 28th and Alexi Coltom placed 33rd with a
178.
“This was a tremendous accomplishment,” said head
coach Bob Grisham. “We competed against high quality teams on a
difficult course. To beat two DI schools shows how far the program has
come in the last three years. The girls played outstanding.”
The finish was the highest for the Saints this
season.
