Women’s Golf: Saints await latest regional rankings
April 16, 2008
Lacey, WA – In the recent announcement of the Golf
World/National Golf Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll Saint
Martin’s women’s golf found themselves ranked 21st overall, within the
same week the Saints were ranked sixth in the West Region poll. The
Saints have wrapped up regular season play and now wait to hear if they
have qualified for a regional berth.
The top six teams in the region are selected to play
at the NCAA DII West Regional Tournament which will be held in Goodyear,
AZ
May 5-7.
“We had a good season,” said head coach Bob Grisham.
“Their play has put them in a position to make regionals, now we just
have to wait and see.”
This year’s team clinched their first ever
tournament victory with a win at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational
with a two-round total of 644, winning by 25 strokes.
Babe Prante and Stacie Henden also earned
co-medalist honors at the SMU Women’s Golf Tournament this fall.
“Our goal at the beginning of the year was to be a
team that competed for a regional berth,” added Grisham. “Seniors Babe
and Stacie were consistent all year. I feel like they are a team that is
very deserving.”
The Saints now anticipate the release of the final
polls of the season to come out in the next week and hope to find
themselves still among the top six teams.
