Women’s Soccer: Saints fall to Crusaders
October
11, 2007
Nampa, ID – Northwest Nazarene got the offense
started early going on to shutout Saint Martin’s 3-0 in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference match Wednesday afternoon at the NNU
Soccer Field.
The Crusaders scored just under five minutes in when
Carlee Stinton sent a corner in to Marie Smith who headed it in for the
goal. Both teams were silent for the duration of the half.
NNU scored again at the 56:19 mark when Liz Gross
converted on a rebound created by another Stinton corner. Their final
goal came in the 79th minute as Kim Bowen scored off a deflection by the
Saints’ keeper.
Northwest Nazarene got off a total of 22 shots in
the game while the Saints were only able to tally nine. SMU goalie
Breanna Klasen had nine saves in the match.
“This game mirrored the one played in Lacey a couple
of weeks ago. We had a few little breakdowns and individual errors and
NNU was able to capitalize on those. Overall we played some very good
soccer against a team that is improving in every game they play. This is
a building block year and despite the result and disappointment we feel
with the loss I am happy with our progress,” said head coach Rob Walker.
“Cayla Dixon, Shannon White, Lauren Kruzner, and Amber Pratt played very
well across the back which was good to see.”
The women will stay on the road as they play Seattle
Pacific on Sunday the 13th in Seattle.
