Overview of service and justice
Working towards a just world is the focus of this aspect of
Campus Ministry. In Campus Ministry, we do this by putting our
faith into action through service projects and by educating for
justice.
Community service activities
Campus Ministry is involved in community service projects on
local, regional, national and international levels.
Local service
We regularly volunteer at local meal centers where food is offered to
the hungry for free. These include
Community Dinners at St. Benedict
Episcopal Church and the Community Kitchen in Olympia. We are also
involved in Habitat for Humanity, local ecology projects and many more.
For more information on local service, contact
Josh Hite.
Regional service
Two to three times a semester, a group of students travel to
Portland, Oregon for our
Portland Immersion: Finding God in the Poor.
National service
Every year since 2002 we have gone on our
Service Trip outside of
our local area. 2012 will be our ten year anniversary of serving others
in areas such as Alabama, Kentucky, Montana, New York, Ohio and
Washington, DC.
International service
Campus Ministry has strong ties with the
Benedictine Sisters of
St. Agnes in Chipole, Tanzania. Since 2001, seven students
of Saint Martin's University have traveled to East Africa in
order to live with and serve the village of Chipole.
