Students with academic honors
Students achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.40
throughout their entire collegiate career, receive academic honors upon
graduation. Honors are distinguished by the award of an honor cord
presented during commencement proceedings. The cord, which is draped
around the neck of the gown, distinguishes the level of honor received.

| Silver cord

Magna cum laude
Cumulative grade point average of 3.60 to 3.79 |
| Gold cord |

Summa cum laude
Cumulative grade point average of 3.80 to 4.00 |
Some students also will wear the medallion of the
Society of Fellows, the University’s honor society. Students who are
nominated for the society are inducted once specific academic criteria
established by the Society is met. The Society of Fellows was founded in
1971 to distinguish members of the student body and faculty who, by
their outstanding work in teaching and learning, contribute to the
intellectual life of the University.
