Get on the network
Network access is needed for university Web-mail,
Self-Service, and Moodle. Even one-time or
part-time students need access because official
university email communication is done via Web-mail.
- Have your student ID number ready and go to
SMU network account request form.
- Within a business day of your request, you should
receive your network username at the email address you
designated in your request.
- Activate your account by choosing a new network
password of at least six characters. (The password to
begin is smu xxxx, where xxxx is the last four digits of
your student ID number.)

- When prompted to reset your password, select a
password of 6-14 characters, with a mix of caps, numbers
and special characters.
- Access may be limited on government computers.
- Make sure your "caps lock" key is not on.
