The memorable Grand Staircase is the
gateway for students entering Saint Martin's University from its main
entrance on Pacific Avenue.
Built
in 1925, the Grand Staircase is a familiar area landmark. A statue of
Christ stands near the top of the stairs, while a small alcove at the base
contains a marble frieze of the University's namesake, St. Martin of Tours.

After
four years of climbing the Grand Staircase to Old Main, graduating
students relish their final ascent up the stairs to line up for
Commencement. A commencement processional from the Grand Staircase to the
nearby Hal and Inge Marcus Pavilion is one of the most popular Saint Martin's traditions,
weather permitting.
