Baseball: Garland named interim head coach
June 4,
2008
Lacey, WA – Ken Garland has been named as the
interim head coach of the Saint Martin’s baseball team as announced by
Athletic Director Bob Grisham.
Garland has spent the last six years as the
assistant coach for the Saints under former head coach Joe Dominiak, who
resigned from the position last month. The new appointment will be a one
year tenure.
“With the University looking at potential to
restructure other coaching positions on campus into full time positions,
along with the timing of Joe’s resignation and the impact on recruiting
we felt that it was best for the program to hire Ken as the interim,”
said Grisham.
Garland’s coaching resume includes stints at
Willamette University, Linfield College and most recently head baseball
coach at the University of Puget Sound.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to direct the
program and move it forward in the direction that we’ve been going,”
said Garland. “I am familiar with all of the returners which will help
not only in my evaluation of them but also help them be more comfortable
with the transition.”
