Track and Field: Washington earns All-American honors
May 23, 2008
Walnut, CA – Saint Martin’s Sam Washington took
seventh in the men’s shot put at the NCAA Division II Championships to
achieve All-American status.
Washington’s throw of 54’10” again set a new school
record in the event. On a day when weather conditions were surprisingly
cold and wet making for slippery conditions in the throwing circle,
Washington got the job done on his first throw setting his new career
best distance.
“Sam was only ranked twelfth going into the
competition and to finish seventh is a fantastic achievement,” said head
coach Julie Sullivan. “Sam’s preparation and apparent calmness during
the competition is a credit to this freshman and I know that his is only
the beginning of a great student-athlete career for this young man.”
