Women’s Basketball: Saints sign three for 08-09
May 12, 2008
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s University women’s
basketball coach Tim Healy has announce the signing of three players to
National Letters of Intent. Among the three recruits are two freshmen,
Emily Lashua and Megan Teade, and one junior transfer, Danika Lawson.
Lashua is a 6-foot post out of Prairie High School
in Brush Prairie, WA. She averaged 10 points and seven rebounds per game
on her way to earning first-team all-League in 2008. She was also named
first-team all-Region and MVP of the Round-ball Classic.
“Emily has the potential to be a fine player here at
SMU. What I like most about her is the versatility factor. She can play
with her back to the basket as well as knock down the open 3,” said
Healy. “As she gets physically stronger we believe she will be a
significant contributor. Coming from a great high school program she
understands what it takes to win. She is also an excellent student and a
fine young lady who we think fits perfectly into our program on and off
the court.”
Teade, a 5’10” wing from Colfax, WA, knows what it’s
like to be part of a successful team having won a total of seven State
Championships in high school, three in basketball and four in
volleyball. She is a three time first-team all-League basketball
selection and earned second-team all-State honors in 2007. Teade has
also been named a first-team all-State and first-team all-League
volleyball selection the last three years. She averaged 11 points and
seven rebounds for Colfax in 2008.
“Megan is a proven performer from a very successful
high school program and understands the winning mentality. She is a
versatile athlete who has all the requisite abilities to be a very solid
player here at SMU,” said Healy. “She is familiar with many of our
players and that comfort level should help her adjust to the college
game quickly.”
Lawson comes to the Saints after playing for North
Idaho College where she earned all-Scenic West League honorable mention
in 2008 after averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game. A graduate
of Puyallup High School, where she earned all-SPSL honors in 2006,
Dawson shoots 46 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the
arc.
“We are ecstatic about this signing,” said Healy.
“Danika is a hard working, versatile, aggressive player who is coming
from a successful junior college program at North Idaho. Her experiences
playing in that league should allow for her to make an immediate impact
in our program. She is athletic, fast and has a superior basketball IQ.”
The Saints lost four seniors from a team that made
it to the regionals playoffs this last year and hope that the addition
of these recruits will help them continue to be a solid competitor in
the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
