Women’s Soccer: Saints suffer from missed opportunities
September 12, 2008
Lacey, WA – Allison Lawrence led the way for
Humboldt State connecting on all three shots she took in the game to
defeat Saint Martin’s 3-1 Friday afternoon at the Regional Athletic
Complex.
Lawrence’s first goal came in the 33rd minute as she
took a cross from Katie Forba and put it away.
Saint Martin’s knotted the game at 1-1 just five
minutes later as Nicole Nedervelt scored on an assist from Jill Jensen.
HSU would regain their lead with six minutes to go
on the half when Lawrence found the back of the net for the second time,
this time with an assist from Kayla Welbanks. Lawrence’s final goal of
the game at the 57:41 mark sealed the deal for the Jacks.
“All hats off to Humboldt for the three great goals
they scored. For us to have so many shooting chances and not be able to
convert more of those into goals is a bit disappointing for the kids,
but we will work on our quality and move forward,” said head coach Rob
Walker.
SMU had their opportunities as they outshot the
Jacks 24-7 in the game. They had 16 shots on goal but were unable to put
any of them away.
“Aleigh Mansfield, Kayci Donatelli, Jill Jensen and
Bree Klasen stepped in a brought a little magic to our game today. With
a little more luck and effort here and there we could have celebrated a
little more on the field today,” said Walker.
The Saints head to Walla Walla this weekend to take
on Whitman College in their final game before the start of conference.
