Here at Saint Martin’s much is said about the University’s Catholic Benedictine identity, and students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to “Be the spirit.” But what does it mean to have a Catholic Benedictine identity? What does it mean to “Be the spirit”? In 2003, a team was formed whose purpose it is to help the Saint Martin’s community understand and live its Catholic Benedictine values, and to keep its Catholic Benedictine heritage an integral part of the University’s community life. These pages were created to aid this process. We hope that they can be a starting point and a resource for understanding the Benedictine traditions and values upon which our University was founded.
