Eagle lectern

The living word of God is often symbolized by the eagle in traditional Christian Church art. An eagle parallels the word in power, in vision, and in grasp, and so, in the Abbey Church, it is from behind an eagle that the word of God is proclaimed.

The model for this lectern was found in Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, and the lectern was crafted by Robert Stanton.
