Careers in music
What will you do with a major, minor or endorsement in music?
The music minor is offered to students with an interest in music who do
not intend to teach in the public schools. The course of study provides
opportunities to study music from technical, cultural and performance
perspectives.
Students majoring in music are further prepared to be involved in a
variety of musical pursuits, including teaching in a studio setting,
teaching music in grades primary through 12, participating in a variety
of performance organizations and serving as a music conductor. The
program also provides preparation for advanced study in performance,
theory and literature.
The subject-area endorsements in music are designed to prepare
elementary and secondary education students with the necessary
background to teach general music and to conduct an ensemble.
