View It is for online resources and Get It for physical ones. These tabs allow you to either view the resource online or, for physical items, tell you where to find or request it.
View It is visible if the full-text is available online for a particular item. Clicking on View It opens the View It tab, which will have links to full-text. Full-text is typically restricted to Saint Martin’s students, faculty, staff, and members of the Abbey. When accessing from off-campus, you will be asked to enter your network/email username and password.
Get It is visible when the item is a physical book, video, journal, or the like. For items owned by Saint Martin’s, the Get It tab will show the location, call number, loan period, and availability (whether it is in place on the shelf or checked out). There is also a link to Request the item from Summit (in case it is checked out). If the item is not owned by Saint Martin’s—no green dot indicating Available—the Get It tab will provide a link to Summit or ILLiad, so that you can request it. You must be logged in to see the loan period or the Summit link.
Select “Articles, books, and more” to search simultaneously for items available from Saint Martin’s and Summit. If a book or video is available from Summit, you will typically see a yellow indicator.
You should also see the "Request item from Summit" link in the Get It tab. That will open the Summit record, where you can request it and/or confirm availability at Summit libraries.
Note that you must be logged into Saints Search to see the Summit link.
An electronic item that is immediately available full-text (click on the "View It" tab to access) OR a physical item available to check out from the O'Grady collection.
A physical item that can be requested via a Summit Borrowing request. Click the
"Get It" tab. If you are logged into your account, you
should see a "Request item from Summit" link.
When a gray dot appears next to a result, it generally means that it is not available full-text and is typically not available through Summit. These items can usually be ordered through ILLIAD (interlibrary loan) by clicking on the "Get it" tab.
When you have located a book that says “Available at Abbey Library,” click Get It. If you are not signed into Saints Search, you will need to do so (Click Sign-in for more options). Then click Request Item and complete the form.
You can request the books through Saints Search and O’Grady Library staff will find them, put them on the circulation hold shelf with your name, and email you when they are ready for you to pick them up. This service is available to all students and faculty, whether on-campus or not. Requests can be made for circulating materials in both the O’Grady Library and the Abbey Library. This does not include Special Collections materials, reference books, and reserves.
- Renewing items in "My Account"
Currently, when viewing your "My Account" to see what items are checked out, the status will say "Renewable". With the new loan rules extending loans to end of term for most St. Martin's patrons, there are no renewals. An error message will say the renewal has failed. We anticipate a fix for this issue late March 2014.
- Requesting a book from Special Collections fails with the message: "Sorry, your request failed. Please contact the library (360-486-8802 or email circulation)."
This is a configuration issue that we are working on. Special Collections materials can only be used in the Special Collections Consultation Room, and you must first schedule an appointment with Fr Peter, our Special Collections Librarian and Archivist.
Fr Peter is typically available Monday – Thursday 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm.
