Message from the director
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2010 issued an influential report
on nursing, Leading Change, Advancing Health. The report
recommends that the U.S. expand opportunities for nurses to lead and
diffuse collaborative efforts, increase the proportion of nurses
with a baccalaureate degree to 80 percent by 2020, ensure that
nurses engage in lifelong learning, and prepare and enable nurses to
lead change to advance health.
Saint Martin's RN-to-BSN program responds to the IOM report's
recommendations. It also prepares nurses to meet what is
referred to as the "Triple-Aim" – better care for individuals,
better health for populations and lower health care costs. The
program will help RNs to advance their knowledge to:
- provide high quality, evidence-based care
for a diverse and aging population
- face the challenges associated with working
with new technology informatics
- create innovative changes to improve the
delivery of health care
- promote inter-professional collaboration
- generate and utilize research
- provide leadership in the workplace,
community and profession
- influence policies, laws and regulations
that promote nursing practice and improve the
health care system.
Graduates of Saint Martin's RN-to-BSN program will be able to
apply their education in their current roles or embrace new
career opportunities. They will also be prepared to continue as
lifelong learners, whether through continuing education,
self-directed learning, or study for advanced degrees. We are
proud that Saint Martin's University is helping to meet
society's critical need for more highly educated nurses. We hope
you will join us!
Warm regards,
