Program mission statement
Career development empowers students and alumni to discover their calling
and develop vocational choices. Students engage in professional development
along with co-curricular programming with the academic and employment
communities. We develop opportunities for students that are consistent with
the Benedictine values of Saint Martin’s University and its core themes of
faith, reason, service and community.
Program goals, objectives and outcomes
Students will be prepared for employment. Students will develop the
ability to articulate career choices. Students will develop a resume with
clear objectives, prepare for information and employment interviews and
learn the value of developing a network.
Students will know workplace behavior and expectations. Students will
learn to appreciate the differences in work environments; learn the
expectations of employers; develop the ability to ask questions and seek
advice from professionals and alumni in the fields in which they are seeking
work.
Students will explore and choose their major. Students will become
familiar with the programs offered within the four schools/colleges at SMU.
They will meet faculty, students and alumni and receive academic and career
advising.
