Garden Courte
626 Lilly Road Northeast
Olympia, WA 98506
Director: Ketta Sedler
Supervisor: Mary Ellen Floyd
360-491-443
Duties and Responsibilities: This is a great experience to learn about
Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia. This internship can be ongoing because the
interns are responsible to interview the residents of Garden Courte in
obtaining background information about their family, hobbies, favorite
foods, former occupation, etc. The information is then written into a
mini-biography of each resident, which will be placed in the bio-box outside
each resident’s door. The purpose of these mini-biographies is to inform
caregivers about the personalities of each resident. The practice of
interviewing will sharpen your memory skills as well as your interviewing
skills. Families who are dealing with a loved one who has either Dementia or
Alzheimer’s disease have grief and guilt issues. As the interviewer, the
intern doubles as a counselor. Another possibility is to design your own
goals of learning about the Alzheimer’s and Dementia population.
