Wednesday, June 26, 2002
Lacey, Wash. - Saint Martin’s College will host the
Accreditation Visiting Committee from the Commission on Colleges of the
Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges Oct. 9-11.
The Commission on Colleges evaluates colleges and
universities on a 10-year cycle. Saint Martin’s was last evaluated in
1992, with follow-up reports in 1997 and 1999. Saint Martin’s College
remains fully accredited.
The accreditation process in post-secondary education
certifies to the educational community and the public that educational
institutions are maintaining standards of performance, integrity and
quality. It encourages higher educational effectiveness and also is
crucial in securing federal funds, facilitating transfers of students’
academic credits and promoting the individual school’s credibility and
legitimacy. Each institution is measured in terms of its stated mission
and, in light of their mission, how well the institution meets a set of
standards.
Saint Martin’s College invites public comments. Please
direct your comments in writing to the Commission on Colleges, 8060
165th Ave. NE, Suite 100, Redmond, WA 98052. Comments must be received
no later than Sept. 1.
