Saint Martin's professor David Suter will deliver paper at regional conference

Prof. David Suter, Ph.D., will deliver a paper at the Northwest Regional
Conference of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical
Literature meeting May 7-9 in Vancouver, B.C.
Suter’s paper, “Celestial Architecture:
The Temple in Heaven in 1 Enoch 14 and Earthly Sanctuaries,” explores a
priestly vision of an Israelite temple in the bible and is part of a
larger investigation by Suter into the nature of priestly images in 1
Enoch in relation to both the Israelite and Hellenistic traditions.
The American Academy of Religion and the
Society of Biblical Literature are the two major national/ international
learned societies dedicated to fostering understanding and contemplation
of the many aspects of religion through scholarship and teaching.
Suter, who is a professor of religious
studies at Saint Martin's, earned his master’s and doctorate’s degrees in New
Testament from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. An
authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls, he teaches courses on the scrolls,
comparative religion and several other religious studies subjects at the
college. His professional interests include ancient Judaism, comparative
religion, Biblical studies, the problem of evil and Biblical
interpretation on peace and justice issues.
